I’m so excited to share that we’re back on FOX 5 Washington DC! What a great way to wrap up August and head into September.
I had the opportunity to return to Good Day DC for another parenting segment, this time talking about Back-to-School Without the Battles and how families can ease into the school-year rhythm with less stress and fewer power struggles.
Because as many of us know, the return to school can quickly bring rushed mornings, homework resistance, repeated reminders, and changing routines.

If your mornings have started sounding like:
“Get dressed.”
“Brush your teeth.”
“Where’s your backpack?”
“How many times do I have to ask?”
You’re certainly not alone.
One of the things I shared during the segment was:
“The goal isn’t to create the perfect school routine. It’s to create a family rhythm that everyone understands and has a role in maintaining.”
Instead of becoming the family alarm clock, constantly reminding everyone what comes next, invite your children into creating the routine with you.
Let them help decide the order of their morning tasks, make a checklist together, or use photos as visual reminders for younger children.
The more children participate in the routine, the more opportunities they have to take ownership of it. And sometimes, a simple shift like this can mean fewer reminders, less frustration, and more cooperation as everyone gets out the door.

I’m so grateful to FOX 5 Washington DC for inviting me back and giving me another opportunity to share practical ideas that families can bring into their own homes.
I hope the full conversation gives you a few ideas to make the transition back to school a little more cooperative and connected in your own family.
Love and Blessings,
Katherine Sellery
